Mio is an open instant messaging service aimed at being accessible to a wide audience, focusing on the less tech-savvy.
It is secure yet accessible, built on web standards, and aims to bridge the gap between popular closed messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram and decentralized, federated messaging systems.
The team, currently consisting of two members, is working on implementing the idea using ejabberd.im, which supports XMPP , Matrix, and SIP.
Two potential financing scenarios have been considered: either an association funded by user subscriptions or an enterprise acting as an operator, such as a mobile carrier.
